On the way to the dump the other day we saw three bear cubs crossing the road only a little way ahead of us. They were all about the same size so some mama bear must have had triplets! We didn’t see her, but she must have been nearby … it only took a second or two to get to the place they crossed but in usual wildlife fashion all were invisible in the bush.
We are still getting a few birds — goldfinch on the feeder, and the occasional junco or sparrow cleaning up the spilled seeds. Haven’t seen a hummingbird in days — there are so many flowers in bloom! And they usually abandon the feeders for a while around this time. Later, when the young are mobile, the hummingbird wars will start up again — for such a tiny bird they are extremely aggressive, and often seem to use more energy chasing other birds away from “their” feeder than they could possible get from drinking the stuff!
